The appointment was made during a special public meeting on July 13. Thirteen individuals applied for the vacancy, and nine appeared for in-person interviews before the Board of Education. Following the interviews, board members deliberated publicly before appointing Laslavic by an 8-0 vote.

Laslavic is an educator in the neighboring Shaler Area School District and previously served as a Ross Township commissioner. He is also a North Hills parent with two children enrolled in the district, bringing both professional and personal perspectives to the Board of Education.

"We appreciate the tremendous interest shown by everyone who applied for this important role and thank each candidate for their willingness to serve our community," said Board President Allison Mathis. "Mr. Laslavic brings valuable experience in both education and public service, and we look forward to working with him as we continue making decisions that support the success of our students."

Laslavic was sworn into office on Tuesday morning, July 14, and will serve through December 7, 2027.

The seat will appear on the 2027 school board election ballot, with the successful candidate serving the remaining two years of Dr. Hall's original term through December 2029. To return the seat to its regular election cycle, it will appear on the 2029 ballot for a full four-year term beginning in December 2029.

Monday’s meeting opened with a moment of silence in memory of Dr. Hall. Before beginning the interview process, Mathis acknowledged that the board was carrying out an important responsibility under difficult circumstances and invited those in attendance to remember their colleague while keeping his family and loved ones in their thoughts.
